Active Outdoor Activities and Cultural Experiences
In Southern Estonia — slow journeys through rivers, wetlands, and local culture, starting and ending at RemoteNow Club.
Multi-day Canoe Journey through Southern Estonia
A multi-day
paddling trip along the Ahja River, including a visit to the remote
wetlands of the Emajõgi Suursoo and a picnic on a secluded bog
island.
The route concludes in an Old Believer village with a summer-season cultural gallery.
Dinner and a traditional bog sauna take
place at RemoteNow Club, which serves as both the starting and finishing
point of the journey. Duration: 2–3 days, depending on the selected
route.
Multi-day Võhandu River Canoe Adventure
A paddling adventure along the full distance of the world’s largest paddling marathon, the Võhandu Marathon, following the Võhandu River end to end. For context: the race winner completes the course in under 8 hours, while the average finisher takes approximately 12–13 hours. This journey follows the same route at a relaxed, experience-focused pace. The programme concludes with dinner and a traditional bog sauna at RemoteNow Club, which is also the starting and finishing point of the trip. Duration: 3 days.
Multi-day
Kooraste Lake System Canoe Trip
A canoe journey through the
Kooraste Lake System, passing consecutively through 11 interconnected
lakes linked by narrow streams and channels. Beaver dams and fluctuating
water levels add character and variety to the route. The trip concludes
with a three-course BBQ gourmet dinner and a traditional smoke sauna at
RemoteNow Club, which serves as both the starting and finishing point
of the journey. Duration: 1–2 days.
Tailor-Made Multi-Activity Journey in Southern Estonia
A fully guided, multi-day journey combining different modes of movement across Southern Estonia’s rural landscapes. The programme may include canoeing, rafting, SUP boarding, fatbiking, and hiking on foot, depending on terrain, season, and group preferences.
Each journey is custom-designed in cooperation with the partner to match client profiles and desired intensity. Depending on the itinerary, the experience may include campfire evenings, an overnight stay in a tent, an early-morning swim or SUP tour, and sauna experiences.
The route leads through untouched natural areas, while also introducing key cultural layers of the region. Experiences may include encounters with UNESCO-listed traditions such as Seto leelo and the Smoke sauna tradition, embedded naturally into the journey rather than presented as stand-alone attractions. The focus is not on reaching a destination, but on the journey itself — slow, varied, and deeply connected to nature.
Guided Setomaa Cultural Experience
Setomaa is a place of living borderlines — where East meets West, Orthodoxy meets Lutheran heritage, and everyday life carries traces of past generations alongside the present. This journey explores Setomaa through its people, places, and traditions. The programme includes visits to key cultural sites and local hosts. Participants learn how traditional Seto folk costumes are worn, experience Seto leelo singing, and visit a local place of worship. The journey is complemented by authentic Seto cuisine, prepared and shared locally. Optional workshops can be added, depending on the interests of the group. The experience can be designed as a standalone one-day cultural journey or combined with outdoor activities elsewhere in Southern Estonia.
Guided Tour of Southern Estonia’s Cultural and Religious Landscapes
A guided journey through Southern Estonia’s four cultural regions, explored through their religious layers and belief systems — from Catholic pilgrimage traditions and Orthodox communities to Lutheran influence and much older pre-Christian worldviews.
The route includes a Seto village chapel (Seto tsässon) and an Old Believers’ prayer house along the Onion Route (Sibulatee), highlighting living Orthodox traditions on Estonia’s cultural borderlands.
At Vastseliina Castle, the focus shifts to medieval Catholicism and its role as one of Northern Europe’s most significant pilgrimage destinations.
Pre-Christian belief systems are explored through culturally charged landscapes. The ancient Tamme-Lauri Oak and the sandstone formations of Taevaskoja are approached as sacred natural sites, where older Estonian animistic traditions viewed nature as inhabited by spirits and deities.
The journey also follows the Võhandu River, long regarded as a sacred river, where ancient beliefs held that powerful beings resided within the flowing water itself.
Rather than presenting a single narrative, the tour invites discussion on how different belief systems — ancient and introduced, spiritual and institutional — continue to coexist and shape Southern Estonia’s identity.
All journeys can be tailored to the needs of cooperation partners and combined with additional content or facilitated group activities.
